NSA Blocks National Service Deployment for Graduates of 13 Institutions

The National Service Authority (NSA) has announced that it will not deploy graduates from 13 tertiary institutions for the national service programme, after a verification exercise by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) confirmed that the schools currently lack accredited status.

The decision, contained in a press release, and signed by NSA Director-General Ruth Dela Seddoh, follows requests from the affected institutions to have their graduating students mobilised for national service.

Why the Block?

Before proceeding with deployment, the NSA sought formal confirmation from GTEC the statutory body responsible for regulating and accrediting tertiary institutions in Ghana regarding the accreditation status of the schools that submitted graduate lists.

GTEC’s findings showed that the 13 institutions do not currently have accredited status. As a result, the NSA stated it is unable to deploy the graduates at this time.

The Authority emphasised that the decision is based solely on the accreditation information provided by GTEC and is intended to safeguard the integrity, credibility, and transparency of Ghana’s National Service Programme.

Hope for Affected Graduates

The NSA has left the door open for the affected graduates.

According to the Authority, graduates from these institutions may still be considered for national service deployment once their respective schools resolve their accreditation issues with GTEC and the Commission formally confirms their accredited status.

The NSA will process and deploy eligible graduates once such confirmation is received, subject to the applicable national service requirements.

Advice to Institutions and Graduates

The NSA has urged the affected institutions to engage directly with GTEC to regularise their accreditation status without delay.

Graduates have also been advised to liaise with their institutions and await official communication from the NSA.

The Authority reiterated that it will continue working closely with GTEC and other stakeholders to ensure that only graduates from duly accredited tertiary institutions are mobilised for national service.

This latest move forms part of ongoing efforts by the NSA to clean up the national service system and ensure that only qualified graduates from recognised institutions participate in the programme.
