GES Releases National Harmonised Prospectus for 2026/2027 SHS Admissions

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the National Harmonised Prospectus for Senior High School (SHS) and Senior High Technical School (SHTS) admissions for the 2026/2027 academic year.

In a statement signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at the GES, and made available on 3 September 2026, the Service described the prospectus as a key measure to streamline admissions and promote fairness and consistency across the country.

Purpose of the Harmonised Prospectus

The document applies to both boarding and day students. It is designed to give parents and newly placed students clear, standardised guidance on the essential items required for enrolment. This helps ensure that all admitted students arrive prepared for the start of the academic year without the confusion or extra costs that previously arose when individual schools issued their own lists.

Under the Free Senior High School policy, the GES has long emphasised that schools must not demand additional items beyond the official national list. The harmonised prospectus reinforces this rule and aims to protect families from unauthorised charges or pressure to buy unnecessary goods.

The GES has urged parents and students to carefully review the prospectus and begin preparations early. Schools and other stakeholders have also been directed to adhere strictly to the outlined requirements to guarantee a smooth, consistent, and standardised admission process nationwide.

The release comes ahead of the official school placement results under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). With the academic year for most Form One and Form Two students scheduled to begin around mid-to-late September 2026 (18 September in recent calendars), families now have clearer guidance for shopping and packing.

Cleaning Contributions Students are often required to contribute to one of several groups of cleaning materials (for example, liquid soap, powdered soap, brooms, mops, gloves, or bleach) to support the upkeep of the school environment.

Day students typically need a lighter list focused on uniforms, footwear, stationery, bags, and basic personal items.
