YEA to Migrate Personnel onto Public Sector Salary Structure 

The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has announced that the Agency is working with the government to migrate its personnel onto the public sector salary structure.

The move is aimed at improving conditions of service and ensuring that YEA staff receive fair wages, promotions, and salary increments comparable to other public service workers.

Addressing Salary Concerns

Speaking to YEA personnel in Techiman on the sidelines of his tour of the Bono East Region, Mr Basintale expressed concern that staff of the Agency have not been enjoying the same salary benefits as other public service workers.

“It’s worrying that personnel of the YEA are not enjoying the right salary as public service workers,” he stated.

He assured the staff that the ongoing collaboration with government would facilitate their migration into the public sector wage system, which is expected to enhance their salaries and overall conditions of service.

“Our personnel are also public service workers, and they have to also benefit from fair wages, deserving promotion and public salary increment,” Mr Basintale emphasised.

Contract Staff Also Covered

The YEA CEO further indicated that personnel engaged on contract under the various YEA models would not be left out of the migration process. This inclusive approach is intended to ensure that both permanent and contract staff benefit from the improved salary structure.

YEA’s Impact on Youth Employment

During the engagement, Mr Basintale highlighted some of the Agency’s achievements in job creation. He noted that the YEA operates 12 traditional models through which it has provided employment opportunities for young people across the country.

Key figures shared include:

• The Ambulance Service model alone has engaged more than 6,000 community first response personnel to support ambulance services.
• An additional 600 young people have been engaged under the labour exchange programme.
• Overall, the Agency has created job opportunities for more than 90,000 youth nationwide.

Mr Basintale explained that his regional tour was aimed at familiarising himself with the operations of the YEA in the Bono East Region while assuring personnel of the government’s commitment to improving their wellbeing.

The planned migration onto the public sector salary structure is expected to bring long-awaited relief to YEA staff and align their remuneration with that of other public sector workers.
