Ghana Armed Forces to Open 2026/27 Recruitment Portal 

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that the online recruitment portal for the 2026 Military Enlistment Exercise will open on Friday, 4 September 2026. The exercise offers eligible Ghanaians the opportunity to apply for careers in the Army, Navy, and Air Force under various officer and specialist categories.

Alongside the portal opening date, the GAF has published detailed entry requirements for the 2026/2027 intake into the Ghana Military Academy. Prospective applicants are advised to carefully review the criteria before applying.

General Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

• Be Ghanaian citizens of good character
• Be medically fit according to GAF standards
• Pass the Pre-Joining Fitness Test

For the Regular Cadet course, additional conditions apply: applicants must be unmarried, not bonded, and between 18 and 26 years old by 18 February 2027.

Height requirements:

• Males: minimum 1.68 metres (5 ft 6 in)
• Females: minimum 1.60 metres (5 ft 2 in)

For Military Police roles, the minimum heights are higher 1.75 metres (5 ft 9 in) for males and 1.70 metres (5 ft 7 in) for females.

Academic Qualifications

Candidates need at least six credits at WASSCE level, including Core English, Core Mathematics, and Core Science. Equivalent qualifications under BECE, SSSCE, and GCE O/A-Level systems are also accepted under the stated conditions. Transcripts and attestations will not be accepted at the documentation stage.

Proficiency in languages such as French, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, German, or Swahili is considered an added advantage.

Career Opportunities Available

The enlistment covers a wide range of disciplines across the three services:

Ghana Army: Graduates are needed in engineering, information technology, telecommunications, logistics, supply chain management, agriculture, physical education, education, public relations, accounting, finance, hospitality, music, and specialised fields including infantry, armour, artillery, signals, ordnance, and explosive ordnance.

Ghana Navy: Opportunities exist in Executive, Technical, Supply, Administration, Information Technology, Education, Records, Agricultural Extension, Band, Public Relations, Pay, and Catering branches.

Ghana Air Force: Openings are available in Operations (including pilots and air traffic control), Engineering, Supply, Administration, Information Technology, Ordnance, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Education, Records, Agricultural Extension, Band, Public Relations, Pay, and Catering.

Most applicants for the Regular Career Officer Course require a first degree of at least Second Class Lower from an accredited institution, with additional requirements for certain branches.

Short Service Commission

The Short Service Commission is open to applicants with advanced academic and professional qualifications. Age limits generally stand at 30 years by 18 February 2027, though higher limits apply for legal (up to 35 years), medical, and other specialised professionals. Medical and dental specialists may apply up to age 40.

Specialised roles include engineers, IT officers, legal officers, medical and dental specialists, pharmacists, nurses, veterinary professionals, public relations officers, education officers, and others.

Application Process and Important Notices

Application e-vouchers (costing GH¢200) are expected to be available from designated Ghana Post offices starting around 3 September 2026. The official recruitment portal is scheduled to open on 4 September.

The GAF has strongly warned the public against scammers. The Armed Forces does not engage third-party agents or collect money to secure recruitment slots. Applicants should rely only on official GAF announcements and verified platforms for accurate information.
