GAF Recruitment 2025/2026: Failed Medical Candidates Get Second Chance
The Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, has officially announced a medical review opportunity for all applicants who were disqualified at the medical screening stage of the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) 2025/2026 recruitment exercise.
This compassionate and transparent move is designed to give deserving candidates especially those with treatable or curable medical conditions a fair second chance to join the Ghana Armed Forces.
Official Announcement: What the Deputy Minister Said
In a public notice Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi stated:
“Relative to the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment for 2025/2026, all potential recruits who failed the medical assessment are reminded to check for the reason(s) from the medical centre where they were assessed. In addition, all those who had curable medical issues at that stage are encouraged to seek medical attention as they would be invited again for a review. The medical review will come at no cost to the applicants.”
He emphasised that the review process will be completely free, removing any financial burden on the affected applicants.
Why This Matters: Fairness and Transparency in GAF Recruitment
The medical screening stage is one of the most critical parts of the GAF recruitment process. It ensures that only physically and medically fit individuals are enlisted to serve in the Army, Navy, or Air Force.
However, some candidates are sometimes disqualified for minor, treatable conditions (such as correctable vision issues, minor infections, or temporary health challenges). The Deputy Minister’s directive is being praised as a major step towards fairness and inclusivity in the recruitment process.
This announcement comes shortly after the first batch of successful recruits (2,000 candidates) received their appointment letters in March 2026 and began training.
What Failed Medical Candidates Should Do Now (Step-by-Step Guide)
- Visit the Medical Centre Return to the exact medical centre where you underwent screening. Ask for the specific reasons for your disqualification (they must provide detailed feedback).
- Seek Treatment if Curable If your condition is treatable or curable, get proper medical attention immediately from a recognised health facility.
- Wait for Invitation Qualified candidates with resolved conditions will be invited for a free medical review at a later date (exact dates will be communicated officially via SMS or the GAF portal).
- Stay Updated Regularly check your SMS, the official GAF website (gafonline.mil.gh), and the Deputy Minister’s Facebook page for updates.
Ghana Security Services Recruitment – No SMS Yet for Medical Screening
The Ministry of the Interior and the recruiting agencies (Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ghana Prisons Service) have issued a critical public notice regarding the ongoing 2025/2026 Centralised Services E-Recruitment Portal (C-SERP) process.
In a statement released around mid-March 2026, the Ministry clarified that NO SMS notifications about the medical screening have been sent to any applicant yet. All official SMS messages will be dispatched between 29th and 31st March 2026 only.
Medical screening is now scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 7th April 2026, at designated centres across all regions of Ghana.

Background on the Recruitment Process
This is part of the massive 2025/2026 security services recruitment drive under the Ministry of the Interior, which saw hundreds of thousands of applications. Key prior stages included:
- Online application via https://cserpgh.com
- Aptitude tests (results released in phases around early March 2026)
- Status updates on the portal
Passing the medical screening is crucial it assesses fitness for service (including general health, vision, hearing, chest X-ray, blood/urine tests, etc.). Successful candidates move to further stages like interviews or training, but clearing medical does not guarantee final selection (as noted in related updates).
Ghana Government Officially Begins Recruitment into the Public Sector for 2026
The Government of Ghana, under President John Dramani Mahama, has confirmed that processes for recruiting new staff into the public service have commenced. This announcement came directly from Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson during a high-level dialogue with President Mahama and Organized Labour.
Despite ongoing fiscal pressures including a recent GH₵17 billion borrowing to cover wage bills the administration is pushing ahead with critical staffing boosts across ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs), and other public institutions. This move fulfills key commitments made in the November 9, 2025 agreement with unions on the 2026 base pay negotiations.

Key Details from the Announcement
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson stated:
“In line with the 9th November 2025 agreement on the 2026 base pay, government committed to engage with unions… and undertake critical recruitment into the public service, all within budget constraints. In this regard, government has commenced processes for the recruitment of staff into the public service.”
This recruitment drive is part of broader efforts to:
- Address staffing shortages in essential sectors like health, education, agriculture, local government, and administration.
- Support economic recovery and service delivery.
- Align with the 9% salary increase approved for public sector workers under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) effective January 2026.
The government emphasizes that all hiring will remain within fiscal limits to avoid ballooning the wage bill further.
Related & Ongoing Recruitment Drives
While the general public sector recruitment is now underway, several specific exercises are active or recently progressed:
- Security Services Recruitment (Police, Immigration, Fire, Prisons, etc.): President Mahama recently directed an expansion from 20,000 to 40,000 personnel over four years (approximately 10,000 per year). The centralized e-recruitment portal (https://cserpgh.com) remains active for applications, with phases including screening, aptitude tests, and medicals. Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has assured transparency and fairness.
- Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) 2025/2026 Recruitment: First phase completed, with nearly 17,000 applicants screened nationwide.
- Local Government Service (LGS): Applications reopened and extended to March 18, 2026, for positions like Regional Coordinating Director/Chief Director.
- Other Public Sector Openings: Various MDAs continue advertising vacancies (e.g., via Public Services Commission, Local Government Service Secretariat). Check official portals for roles in planning, finance, health, education, and more.
How to Apply & What to Expect
- General Public Sector Recruitment: No single centralized portal announced yet for non-security roles — watch official channels like:
- Ministry websites (e.g., health.gov.gh, education.gov.gh)
- Public Services Commission (psc.gov.gh)
- Local Government Service (lgs.gov.gh)
- Jobs portals like GLMIS (glmis.gov.gh) for aggregated listings.
- Security & Specialized Roles: Use https://cserpgh.com for internal security agencies.
