Ghana-Spain Partnership Boosts Women’s Education: 100+ Fully Funded ScholarshipsÂ
In a significant step to strengthen bilateral ties and empower Ghanaian women, Spain and Ghana have announced expanded scholarship opportunities through the Learn Africa Programme 2026/2027. The initiative, spearheaded by the Women for Africa Foundation, offers more than 100 scholarships for postgraduate studies in Spanish universities, targeting African women who want to advance their academic and leadership potential.
The announcement was made today during an engagement between the Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, Angel Lossada, and Ghana’s Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, at the Ministry in Accra.
What is the Learn Africa Programme?
Launched in 2013 by the Women for Africa Foundation, the Learn Africa Programme has already supported over 462 African women from 36 countries through master’s degrees, doctoral programmes, research stays, specialist courses, and other postgraduate training in Spain.

- Fields of study span health & sciences, technology, social sciences, development, leadership, and many more strategic disciplines.
The programme is fully aligned with Spain’s commitment to gender equality, knowledge transfer, and sustainable development across Africa.
Key Highlights from Today’s Announcement
Spanish Ambassador Angel Lossada explained that the programme specifically targets women who have already completed tertiary education and are seeking to advance their academic and professional development. The broader goal is to improve human capital and development outcomes in their home countries.
Ghana’s Minister Agnes Naa Momo Lartey warmly welcomed the initiative, stating it aligns perfectly with her Ministry’s mandate to empower women through education and capacity building. She assured that efforts would be made to ensure eligible candidates especially professionals, those in tertiary institutions, and women from disadvantaged backgrounds take full advantage of the opportunity.
