GETFund Releases GH₵199.47 Million to Clear Perishable Supply Arrears for FSHS & TVET
The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has released a significant amount of GH₵199,471,691 to settle outstanding payments owed to suppliers of perishable goods under the Free Senior High School (FSHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
The disbursement, made through three cheques on Monday, 20th April 2026, is expected to ease financial pressure on suppliers and ensure the smooth and uninterrupted supply of essential food items to thousands of students across the country.
Details of the Payment
According to an official statement from GETFund:
- The funds will clear arrears for perishable supplies (fresh food items such as vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, and other short-shelf-life products).
- FSHS Arrears: Cover the period from October 2025 to February 2026.
- TVET Arrears: Cover the period from October to December 2025.
This timely intervention reaffirms the government’s commitment to honouring its obligations to service providers who play a critical role in the feeding programme for second-cycle institutions.
Why This Payment Matters
The Free Senior High School policy has significantly increased enrolment, placing enormous pressure on the feeding component. Perishable supplies are particularly sensitive because suppliers often operate with thin margins and rely on prompt payments to restock and sustain their businesses.
Delayed payments in the past had led to:
- Supply chain disruptions
- Shortages of fresh food in some schools
- Financial strain on small and medium-scale suppliers
The release of GH₵199.47 million is therefore expected to:
- Restore confidence among suppliers
- Guarantee continuous delivery of quality meals to students
- Support the smooth running of the school feeding programme for the rest of the academic year
Government’s Commitment to Education
This disbursement forms part of broader efforts by the government and GETFund to strengthen the FSHS and TVET programmes. It demonstrates a clear focus on addressing logistical and financial bottlenecks that affect teaching and learning.
GETFund has reiterated its dedication to timely payments and sustained collaboration with all stakeholders, including the Ghana Education Service (GES), suppliers, and school authorities, to ensure efficient service delivery in the education sector.
What This Means for Stakeholders
- Suppliers: They can now clear debts, restock, and continue supplying schools without interruption.
- Schools & Students: Expect more consistent and quality meals, which directly supports student health, concentration, and academic performance.
- Parents & Guardians: Reduced risk of complaints about inadequate feeding in boarding schools.
