India Offers Fully Funded ICCR Scholarships to Ghanaian Students for 2026–2027

The Government of India, through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under the Ministry of External Affairs, has opened doors for Ghanaian students with fully funded scholarships for the 2026–2027 academic year.

The High Commission of India in Accra has officially announced two prestigious schemes that cover undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral studies at over 131 reputed Indian universities and institutes. Two Scholarship Schemes Available to Ghanaians

1. India–Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme

70 dedicated slots for Ghanaian students
Covers Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), and PhD programmes
Open to both STEM and Non-STEM disciplines

2. Lata Mangeshkar Dance & Music Scholarship Scheme

Global scheme open to Ghanaians
75 slots worldwide for Indian Culture (Dance, Music, Theatre, Performing Arts, Sculpture, Indian Languages, Indian Cuisine) maximum 10 slots per country
25 slots for a 1-year Diploma in Yoga at specific institutes (maximum 2 slots per country)
Institutes for Yoga: Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (Uttarakhand), Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute (Maharashtra), Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (New Delhi), and Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (Bangalore)
Ideal for artists, musicians, dancers, and cultural enthusiasts

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

You must meet these requirements:

Be a Ghanaian national
Hold a passport valid for at least 2 years as of 1 July 2026

Additional requirements

Strong English proficiency (submit a 500-word essay in English OR TOEFL/IELTS scores)
For science/engineering UG: Must have studied relevant subjects (Maths/Physics/Chemistry or Biology/Physics/Chemistry) at WASSCE/Senior High School level
For MBA: GMAT may be required by some universities
For performing arts: Upload a recent video/YouTube link of your performance
For PhD: Submit a research synopsis

Important notes:

No scholarships for para-medical, medical, or short-term courses (AYUSH scholarships are announced separately).
PIO/OCI cardholders have additional schooling conditions.

What Does the Scholarship Cover? (Financial Benefits)

This is a 100% fully funded package:

Return economy-class airfare (to nearest airport + 3-tier AC train fare if needed)
Full tuition fees paid directly to the university
Monthly stipend: ₹18,000 (UG) | ₹20,000 (PG) | ₹22,000 (PhD)
House Rent Allowance (if hostel not provided)
Contingent & thesis/dissertation allowance
Accommodation support in university hostels

Note: You will pay for mess charges, security deposits, and any non-covered fees yourself. Health insurance (minimum ₹5 lakh) is mandatory at your own cost.

Academic certificates & transcripts (WASSCE, degree certificates, etc.) – in English or with certified translation
Recent passport-size photograph (white background, both ears visible)
500-word English essay on a given topic
TOEFL/IELTS scores (optional but recommended)
For PhD: Research synopsis
For performing arts: Latest performance video/YouTube link
Proof of subjects studied (for science/engineering applicants)

After receiving offer (upload on portal):

Medical Fitness Certificate (with test reports & vaccination proof) from a registered doctor/hospital
