What is the Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship?

Jointly run by Chatham House (the Royal Institute of International Affairs) and the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, this fellowship brings together emerging African leaders to work on pressing global and African policy issues. Fellows spend ten months at Chatham House, contributing to the institute’s research while developing their own independent research project.

Africa Programme themes (governance, political leadership, digital transformation in Africa, etc.)
Digital Society Programme (AI governance, digital public infrastructure, digital trade, geopolitics of digital infrastructure)

Eligibility Criteria

Citizenship: Open to citizens of any African country (dual nationals with an African country are also eligible)
Education: Must have completed a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) at the time of application
Research Experience: Demonstrated experience conducting independent research
Career Stage: Early-to-mid-career professionals from academia, NGOs, business, government, civil society, or media
Other Requirements:
- Strong interest in international affairs
- Proficiency in English
- Commitment to Chatham House’s mission and values
- Ability to work full-time (no other employment or studies allowed during the fellowship)
