Update: CPD Allowance (CPDA) Confirmed for November 2025 Payment
If you're a teacher in Ghana asking, "When will our Professional Development Allowance be paid?" – we have a clear and official update for you.
The wait is almost over. The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has issued a formal union alert confirming that the Continuous Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) will be paid in November 2025.
This announcement, directly from the General Secretary of GNAT, Thomas T. Musah, puts to rest the speculation and aligns with the schedule outlined in the current Collective Agreement.
Let's break down everything you need to know.
Official Confirmation from GNAT
In a recent SMS alert to its members, GNAT leadership stated:
"Please, be informed that the CPD allowance will be paid in November as enjoined by the 2024 Collective Agreement."
This direct communication is a welcome relief for many teachers who have been eagerly awaiting news. It confirms that the payment schedule is on track as per the official agreement between the teacher unions and the government.

How Much Will You Be Paid? (The Key Details)
According to Appendix B of the 2024-2025 Collective Agreement, the CPDA rates and payment structure are as follows:
-
For Professional Teachers: GH¢2,400 per annum
-
For Non-Professional Teachers: GH¢1,800 per annum
However, it's crucial to note that this is the gross amount. Two key deductions are made at source:
-
GH¢200 is deducted annually to fund Continuous Professional Development activities.
-
GH¢100 is deducted for teacher licence renewal.
This means the net amount you can expect to receive will be your full annual allowance minus these standard deductions.
Why November? A Look Back at the Agreement
Many teachers recall that last year (2024), the allowance was split, with payments made in September and November. This year's schedule is different and was actually planned well in advance.
The Collective Agreement explicitly states:
"That this allowance shall be paid in September, 2024 and November, 2025."
This confirms that for the 2025 cycle, the entire annual allowance is scheduled for a single payment in November. There is no indication of a split payment for this year, meaning eligible staff should expect their full net allowance to be paid at once.
Beyond the CPDA: Other Questions from Teachers
While the CPDA news is positive, the circulation of this alert has also led teachers to question the status of other parts of the Collective Agreement. Many are rightly asking about:
-
The Salary Advance: The agreement mentions an advance of up to 150% of an employee's annual gross salary for confirmed teachers. Teachers are keen to understand the implementation timeline for this significant financial benefit.
-
Deprived Area Incentive:Â The review and negotiation of incentives for teachers in difficult areas are still pending.
These are valid concerns, and it is expected that the teacher unions will continue to engage with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Ministry of Education on these other critical items.
The message is clear:Â Mark November 2025 on your calendar for your CPDA payment.
The official channels have confirmed it, and it is in line with the signed agreement. While other components of the agreement are still under discussion, this update on the CPDA is a firm and positive step.
