Eligibility & Requirements

To qualify for UCC’s study abroad programme, you must:

 Have a minimum CGPA of 2.5

Complete at least one academic year at UCC (priority given to 2nd & 3rd-year undergraduates)

Submit:

• Letter of intent

• Completed application form

• Current academic transcript

• Proof of financial support

• Valid passport (must be ready at the time of application)

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

How to Apply

1. Check for open opportunities (via UCC’s OIR announcements).

2. Prepare all required documents (listed above).

3. Submit online & physically to the International Relations Office.

4. Attend an interview if shortlisted.

5. If selected:

   • Complete a Course Endorsement Form before departure.

   • Follow the pre-departure checklist (visa, flights, insurance, etc.).

PRE-DEPARTURE CHECKLIST

1. PASSPORT

• Apply for a passport if you do not already have one.

• Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your return date.

2. VISA

• Research visa requirements for your destination.

• Most countries require Ghanaian citizens to obtain a visa.

• Check the Embassy’s website for detailed information.

3. VACCINATIONS

• Visit the CDC website for recommended immunizations.

• Consult your primary care physician regarding travel vaccines.

4. WHILE YOU ARE GONE

• Arrange for someone to manage your affairs (bills, mail, etc.) in your absence.

5. PHOTOCOPIES

• Make copies of important documents:

  • Passport

  • Visa

  • ID cards

  • Traveler’s checks

• Leave a copy with a trusted contact at home.

• Carry a separate copy (not with the originals).

6. STAY HEALTHY

• Follow CDC guidelines to avoid travel-related illnesses.

• Proper preparation minimizes health risks.

7. MEET WITH CIE

• Discuss opportunities with the Director of CIE to maximize your trip.

• Learn about recent activities with partner institutions.

8. ESTABLISHING YOUR ITINERARY (Faculty Only)

• If you lack contacts at partner institutions, consult the CIE Director.

• The Director will facilitate introductions via your CV and letter of interest.

• Work with your overseas contact to finalize your itinerary.

9. AIRFARE

• Secure your own airfare (unless otherwise arranged).

• Confirm host institution approval before booking flights.

10. PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS

• Obtain a doctor’s letter for prescription medications, including:

  • Purpose of medicine

  • Dosage

  • Generic equivalents (if applicable)

• For glasses wearers: Bring a spare pair + prescription copy.

11. DO YOUR RESEARCH

• Research the country’s:

  • Current events

  • Culture, history, economy

  • Healthcare, legalities, languages

  • Religion, social norms, education system

• Use travel guides and online resources.

12. ESTABLISH EMERGENCY PROTOCOL

• Share host country contact details with family/friends.

• Ensure loved ones can reach you in case of emergencies.

WHILE ABROAD

1. COMMUNICATION BACK HOME

• Inform family of your first check-in timeframe (e.g., within 24–48 hours of arrival).

3. TALK ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE
