Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is there a fee to teach with Global Teaching Partners?
Global Teaching Partners does not charge an application or a participation fee; however, those applying to Global’s program will most likely need to pay for a police background check, official transcripts (and translations of transcripts, if applicable) for a credential evaluation, and a U.S. visa in order to progress through the process. It may also be necessary for the Global Educator to reimburse Global Teaching Partners for costs associated with renewing their teaching license.
If an applicant receives a payment request from anyone stating that they work with Global Teaching Partners, it is imperative that NO FINANCIAL INFORMATION is provided to the sender. Rather, it is strongly suggested that this request be forwarded to Global at applicants@globalteachingpartners.com so that a Global team member can further investigate the situation.
What is the annual salary of a Global Educator?
While the exact salary amount varies from educator to educator, Global Educators are compensated on the same salary scale as other educators in their school districts. Compensation is determined by educators’ level of education, their teaching experience, and the policies of the district and state in which they teach.
Salary Details:
Global Educators are paid by their host school districts on a commensurate level as their U.S. teacher counterparts. Teachers generally earn a monthly salary between $3,600 and $6,155 (before taxes are withheld) depending on location (state), educational background, and years of teaching experience. Some host school districts provide additional financial supplements to their teachers. Global Educators are welcome to join a union/association for teachers if they desire, but this is not a requirement of Global Teaching Partners, so any union dues associated with such are voluntary.
To better understand the difference between a U.S. teacher’s gross monthly salary and their net monthly salary, please see the example provided below. This example is based on a gross annual salary of $45,720 paid over 10 months (actual salaries and taxes may vary).

After a Global Educator spends two (2) tax calendar years in the U.S., he/she is considered a resident alien for tax purposes. This means that the Global Educator will also have Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax deducted from his/her salary at a rate of 7.65%. FICA tax includes both Social Security tax at 6.2% and Medicare tax at 1.45% (for a total of 7.65%). Global Educators do not receive any retirement benefits.
Fees and Expenses
Global Teaching Partners strives to make each teacher’s experience positive and rewarding and wants applicants to be aware of all fees and expenses associated with the program prior to participation. Global does not charge teachers an application fee, a sponsor fee, or any foreign or domestic third party or partner fees; however, teachers will incur costs prior to becoming and while they are a Global Educator.
Necessary expenses include fees to obtain the J-1 visa and fees to obtain the state teaching license (costs outlined in table). Global Educators are not required to pay for credential evaluations; however, a Global Educator may need to pay to request an official transcript from his/her college/university, and/or he/she may need to pay for an official certified translation of a transcript if the necessary transcript is not in English.
Global Educators will also most likely need to plan and pay for the following:
- Housing
- Furniture
- Utilities
- Transportation
- Health Insurance
- Clothing
- Cell Phone and Cell Phone Plan
- Entertainment
Please understand that Global recommends that all new teachers bring a minimum of $3,500 to the U.S. to aid in relocation expenses.
Does Global Teaching Partners provide H-1B Visas to educators?
No, Global Teaching Partners exclusively sponsors educators for the J-1 Cultural Exchange Visa, which is a temporary, non-immigration visa.
Why does Global not accept applications from all regions?
Occasionally, Global receives an overwhelming number of applications from a particular region. When this happens, Global temporarily disables further applications in order to provide our Recruitment team with time to review the applications with the attention they deserve. If an applicant’s region is temporarily disabled, they are encouraged to check back in a few months to submit an application.
Do Global Educators need to purchase a car once they are in the U.S.?
Yes, all Global Educators must purchase a car. Many of Global’s partner school districts are located in areas with limited access to reliable public transportation. Global Educators must be fully independent in case of emergencies and for day-to-day living while in the U.S. Global Educators cannot be dependent on their spouse or other family members for transportation in the U.S.
How to Apply
