Major Announcement: WAEC Best Candidates to Receive Expanded Scholarships
The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the government will increase the number of top-performing WASSCE students awarded scholarships from three to ten annually.
This initiative, sponsored by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), aims to reward academic excellence and motivate students nationwide.
Key Highlights of the New Scholarship Plan
1. Expanded Awards & Eligibility

top 10 WASSCE candidates (up from 3) will receive full GETFund scholarships through the Ghana Scholarship Authority (GSA).

Best Overall Student

Best in Science, General Arts, Business, and Visual Arts

Best Female Science & Math Student

Best Student from a Deprived Community

2. President’s Scholarship & Pan-African Inclusion

All winners will qualify for the President John Mahama Scholarship.

The program will also extend to top-performing students from other West African countries, promoting Pan-African academic collaboration.
3. New Ghana Scholarship Authority Bill

A new bill will soon be introduced to prevent favoritism and corruption in scholarship allocations.

This ensures transparency and merit-based awards.
Restoring the Academic Calendar
The Minister urged WAEC and GES to: ✔ Return BECE and WASSCE schedules to pre-COVID timelines for smoother transitions. ✔ Release exam results faster to reduce student anxiety.
