Ghana Education Service (GES) Promotions updates 2025

ACCRA, GHANA – August 21, 2025 – The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released an immediate statement addressing key concerns regarding the ongoing 2025 Teacher Promotion registration exercise.

The Management of GES noted two major issues raised by teachers:

1. The eligibility of teachers who received their last promotion or appointment in or before 2021.

2. Significant technical challenges were faced in accessing and using the online application portal.

In response, GES Management has provided the following assurances:

1. No Eligible Teacher Will Be Left Out: The promotion application is expressly open to all teachers who received their last promotion or appointment in or before 2021.

2. Technical Issues Are Being Resolved: The online promotion portal is currently undergoing technical improvements to resolve access and submission problems. Teachers experiencing difficulties are urged to remain calm as the issues are being addressed. Management has taken full responsibility for these technical challenges.

Promotion of Teaching Staff to the Ranks of Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Principal Superintendent

Applications are invited from suitably qualified serving teachers/officers for consideration for promotion to the ranks of:

• Deputy Director

• Assistant Director I

• Assistant Director II

• Principal Superintendent

Qualifications

a) Deputy Director
An applicant should have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Director I in or before 2020 and must have been continuously at post since that date (except for approved periods of leave of absence).

b) Assistant Director I
An applicant should have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Director II in or before 2020 and must have been continuously at post since that date (except for approved periods of leave of absence).

c) Assistant Director II
An applicant should have been promoted to the rank of Principal Superintendent in or before 2020 and must have been continuously at post since that date (except for approved periods of leave of absence).

d) Principal Superintendent
An applicant should have been promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent I in or before 2020 and must have been continuously at post since that date (except for approved periods of leave of absence).
Applicants with an approved undergraduate degree will be automatically placed on this rank.

Officers/Teachers with Master’s/PhD Degrees

Applicants who wish to rely on Master’s/Doctorate degrees to join the interviews out of turn should note the following:

1. The Master’s/PhD programme must be on the approved GES course of study.

2. The Master’s/PhD certificate should not have been obtained before the previous promotion.

3. Applicants who wish to use the Master’s/PhD certificate for ADI, ADII, and Deputy Director promotion should have obtained their certificate in or before 2022.

Mode of Application

1. Applicants should complete the APPLICATION FORM online via https://bit.ly/gespromotions2025 or scan the QR code provided in the official notice.

2. Required documents to be uploaded:

   • Passport-size photograph (jpeg, jpg, or png format)

   • Last promotion, appointment, or upgrading letter

   • Highest academic certificate used for applying for the promotion

3. All uploaded documents must be in PDF format (except passport photo) and should be clear and legible.

4. Application window opens Monday, 18th August to Friday, 5th September, 2025.
