GES Opens Applications for Promotion of Teaching Staff – September 2025

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the promotion of teaching staff to various ranks within the service. Qualified and serving teachers/officers are invited to apply for consideration for promotion to the following ranks:

Deputy Director
Assistant Director I
Assistant Director II
Principal Superintendent

Qualification Requirements

1. Deputy Director

Must have been promoted to Assistant Director I on or before 2021.
Must have been continuously at post since promotion (excluding periods of approved leave of absence).

2. Assistant Director I

Must have been promoted to Assistant Director II on or before 2021.
Must have been continuously at post since promotion (excluding periods of approved leave of absence).

3. Assistant Director II

Must have been promoted to Principal Superintendent on or before 2021.
Must have been continuously at post since promotion (excluding periods of approved leave of absence).

4. Principal Superintendent

Must have been promoted to Senior Superintendent I on or before 2021.
Must have been continuously at post since then (excluding periods of approved leave of absence).
Applicants with an approved undergraduate degree will be automatically placed on this rank.

Special Provisions for Officers/Teachers with Master’s & PhD Degrees

Applicants relying on their Master’s/PhD qualifications to join the promotion interview out of turn must note the following:

The Master’s/PhD program must be on the approved GES course of study.
The certificate should not have been obtained before the previous promotion.
For ADI, ADII, and Deputy Director promotions, the Master’s/PhD certificate must have been obtained in or before 2023.

Mode of Application

Applicants must complete the online application form
Required documents to be uploaded:
- Passport-size photograph (jpeg, jpg, or png format).
- Last promotion or appointment/ upgrading letter.
- The highest academic certificate is being used for the application.
All documents uploaded must be in PDF format (except the passport picture) and must be clear and legible.
Application window:
- Opens: Thursday, 11th September 2025
- Closes: Thursday, 2nd October 2025

The Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to assure all teachers that the deadline for the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 will be extended.

Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every eligible teacher, who has served at least four (4) years on their current rank and are due for promotion, is fully supported to go through a stress-free application process.

We, therefore, encourage all prospective applicants to remain calm while the 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 works diligently to restore and improve the application portal. As soon as the portal is restored, applicants will be duly informed to proceed with their submissions.

ACCRA, GHANA – August 21, 2025 – The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released an immediate statement addressing key concerns regarding the ongoing 2025 Teacher Promotion registration exercise.

The Management of GES noted two major issues raised by teachers:

The eligibility of teachers who received their last promotion or appointment in or before 2021.
Significant technical challenges were faced in accessing and using the online application portal.

In response, GES Management has provided the following assurances:

No Eligible Teacher Will Be Left Out: The promotion application is expressly open to all teachers who received their last promotion or appointment in or before 2021.
Technical Issues Are Being Resolved: The online promotion portal is currently undergoing technical improvements to resolve access and submission problems. Teachers experiencing difficulties are urged to remain calm as the issues are being addressed. Management has taken full responsibility for these technical challenges.

Promotion of Teaching Staff to the Ranks of Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Principal Superintendent

Applications are invited from suitably qualified serving teachers/officers for consideration for promotion to the ranks of:

Deputy Director
Assistant Director I
Assistant Director II
Principal Superintendent

Qualifications

a) Deputy Director
An applicant should have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Director I in or before 2020 and must have been continuously at post since that date (except for approved periods of leave of absence).

b) Assistant Director I
An applicant should have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Director II in or before 2020 and must have been continuously at post since that date (except for approved periods of leave of absence).

c) Assistant Director II
An applicant should have been promoted to the rank of Principal Superintendent in or before 2020 and must have been continuously at post since that date (except for approved periods of leave of absence).

d) Principal Superintendent
An applicant should have been promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent I in or before 2020 and must have been continuously at post since that date (except for approved periods of leave of absence).
Applicants with an approved undergraduate degree will be automatically placed on this rank.

Officers/Teachers with Master’s/PhD Degrees

Applicants who wish to rely on Master’s/Doctorate degrees to join the interviews out of turn should note the following:

The Master’s/PhD programme must be on the approved GES course of study.
The Master’s/PhD certificate should not have been obtained before the previous promotion.
Applicants who wish to use the Master’s/PhD certificate for ADI, ADII, and Deputy Director promotion should have obtained their certificate in or before 2022.

Required documents to be uploaded:
- Passport-size photograph (jpeg, jpg, or png format)
- Last promotion, appointment, or upgrading letter
- Highest academic certificate used for applying for the promotion
All uploaded documents must be in PDF format (except passport photo) and should be clear and legible.
