Parents and BECE candidates, this is the biggest update you’ve been waiting for! The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service (GES), has announced a major reform to the school placement process for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Starting this year, candidates will select their preferred Senior High Schools (SHS) ONLY AFTER the release of their BECE results.
This change aims to give students and parents a clearer picture of the candidate’s performance before making choices, ensuring more informed and realistic selections under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). No more guessing or selecting blindly before sitting the exams!

Quick Update on BECE 2026 Exams
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the final timetable for BECE 2026 (both school and private candidates).
- Exam Dates: Monday, 4th May 2026 – Monday, 11th May 2026
- Key subjects kick off with English Language (Essay & Objective) on Day 1 and wrap up with Arabic on the final day.
- Other core papers include Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and all electives as per the new curriculum.
Candidates, teachers, and parents are urged to use the next few weeks for serious revision. The timetable is already available on the WAEC website and GES platforms.
Results Release: Expected in August 2026 (exact date to be confirmed by WAEC, but historically released in August to allow timely placement before the academic year begins).

Once results are out in August 2026, here’s exactly what will happen:
- One-Week Window for Selection Candidates will have one week after results are released to log in and make their choices. The exact dates will be announced by GES immediately after results drop – watch this space!
- Access the Official CSSPS Portal
- Visit: www.cssps.gov.gh
- Log in with your 10-digit BECE Index Number (e.g., 100000000026 for 2026) + Date of Birth.
- No physical forms at JHS this time – everything is online and result-based.
- Selection Guidelines (Same Proven Structure)
- Choose a total of 11 schools (updated GES rule):
- 1 from Category A
- Up to 2 from Category B
- Up to 5 from Category C
- Plus 3 additional from the approved Alternative List
- Maximum of 3 boarding schools in your main choices.
- Day/Boarding options must be clearly indicated.
- You can now make smarter choices because you’ll already know your grades and aggregate!
- Choose a total of 11 schools (updated GES rule):
- Confirmation & Placement
- After submitting, double-check your choices on the portal.
- Placement results will be released shortly after the selection window closes (expected mid-to-late September 2026).
- If you miss the window or need self-placement (for those with vacant slots), the portal allows it.
- Tip: Involve parents, guardians, and your JHS teachers when selecting. Use tools like SHSselect.com for accurate Category A–C lists.
Important Reminder from GES: Never pay anyone promising “special placement.” The system is transparent and merit-based.
This reform is a game-changer for fairness and reduces stress for families. Students can now aim high based on actual performance!
