University of Developmental Studies (UDS), BSc. Ecotourism and Hospitality Management

Ghana is a treasure trove of natural beauty, rich culture, and untapped potential. From lush rainforests and sprawling savannas to historic castles and vibrant communities, the resources for a thriving tourism industry are immense. Yet, a key ingredient is missing: skilled professionals to manage these resources sustainably and market them effectively.

The BSc. Ecotourism and Hospitality Management programme is designed to fill that gap. It's more than just a degree; it's a mission to build the next generation of leaders who will transform Ghana's tourism landscape, especially in the Northern sector, into a model of sustainability and economic prosperity.

Why This Programme Matters Now

Think about the last time you visited a tourist site. Were the facilities well-maintained? Was the experience seamless from booking accommodation to finding a knowledgeable guide? For many sites in Ghana, the answer is often "not yet."

This programme directly addresses these challenges by training experts to:

  • Identify and develop unexplored ecotourism potential.

  • Manage responsibly by conserving natural and cultural resources for future generations.

  • Market effectively to put Ghana on the map as a top-tier ecotourism destination.

  •   Empower Communities by creating sustainable tourism opportunities at the local level.

But a great destination needs great services. This degree recognizes that ecotourism doesn't exist in a vacuum. It's powered by a robust hospitality sector. That's why you'll also learn to manage the essential services that make travel possible:

  • Accommodation (Hotels, Lodges, Eco-Camps)

  • Food and Beverage (Restaurants, Catering)

  • Transportation and Logistics

  • Tour Operations and Guiding Services

What You Will Learn

This interdisciplinary programme blends business acumen with environmental stewardship and cultural preservation. You will graduate with the skills to:

  • Design and market unique ecotourism experiences.

  • Manage hospitality operations profitably and sustainably.

  • Develop business plans for tourism enterprises.

  • Understand and implement best practices in conservation.

  • Work collaboratively with local communities and other stakeholders.
