1. Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Ireland Fellows Programme Africa, applicants must:

  • Be a resident national of one of the eligible African countries listed in the guidance note.

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree (awarded in 2014 or later) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent).

  • Have 2–3 years of relevant work experience (varies by country; see table on page 9).

  • Not already hold a master’s degree or higher.

  • Demonstrate leadership potential, commitment to SDGs, and building Ireland-Africa ties.

  • Select three eligible master’s programmes in Ireland (ranked in order of preference).

  • Meet English language proficiency requirements (IELTS 6.5+ or equivalent; Duolingo accepted for shortlisted candidates).

Note: Applications are by invitation only in certain countries (e.g., Angola, Kenya, Uganda). Check eligibility with the relevant Irish Embassy.

2. Required Documents for Stage 1 Application

Submit the following scanned copies (PDF format) by email (except Nigeria/Ghana, which use online portals):

  • Passport (identity page) or official ID if no passport.

  • Undergraduate degree certificate.

  • Final academic transcripts (including grading system explanation).

File Naming Format:

  • YourName-Passport.pdf

  • YourName-UndergraduateDegree.pdf

  • YourName-AcademicTranscript.pdf

Submission Deadline: 25 July 2025 (via email to the designated Embassy; see page 7 for addresses).

3. Stage 1 Application Form Sections

Complete the form with details under:

  • Q1: Personal Information (name, nationality, contact, accessibility needs).

  • Q2: Education (degree details, institution, transcripts). Call Us for your transcript

  • English Proficiency: Note IELTS requirements for chosen programmes (test not yet needed at Stage 1).

  • Q3: Work Experience (employer, job title, duration, leadership roles).

  • Q4: Master’s Programme Choices (3 programmes, ranked, from the Directory of Eligible Programmes).

  • Q5: Motivation Statement (150 words each on):

    • Career alignment with chosen programmes.

    • Contribution to your country’s SDGs.

    • Building Ireland-Africa links.

4. Stage 2 Requirements (if shortlisted)

Opens: 22 September 2025 | Deadline: 17 October 2025 Additional documents required:

  • Passport-sized photo.

  • Graduation certificates for all higher education qualifications.

  • Academic transcripts (+ grading explanations).

  • Two academic reference letters (on letterhead, signed).

  • IELTS/Duolingo score (if available; Duolingo required for shortlisted candidates without IELTS).

  • Updated CV.

English Test: Shortlisted candidates take Duolingo (minimum 120 overall, 105 per sub-score) or IELTS.

5. Stage 3: Interview Process (Nov–Dec 2025)

  • Submit certified hard copies of all documents (translated if not in English).

  • Interviews may be in-person or remote.

  • Successful candidates receive conditional offers (pending English test results and HEI admission).

6. Key Dates

  • Stage 1: 30 June – 25 July 2025.

  • Stage 2: 22 September – 17 October 2025.

  • Interviews: November–December 2025.

  • HEI Applications (for candidates): March 2026.

  • Fellowship Confirmation: June–July 2026.

  • Programme Start: August–September 2026.

7. Additional Notes

  • Financial Coverage: Tuition, flights, accommodation (€700–€1,000/month stipend), insurance, and settling-in allowance.

  • No dependents: The award does not cover family members.

  • Medical Form: Required for successful fellows before travel.
