Accra, June 28, 2025 – The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has issued a stern warning to prospective applicants seeking enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) officer corps, cautioning them against falling victim to fraudulent recruitment schemes.

In a Facebook post today, Dr. Boamah emphasized the need for vigilance, urging applicants to avoid paying bribes or engaging with individuals claiming to facilitate recruitment in exchange for money.

Key Warnings from the Defence Minister

The Minister’s advisory outlined two critical points for potential applicants:

  1. Beware of scams – No payments should be made for enlistment.

  2. Review eligibility criteria carefully before applying.

He also clarified that recruitment for non-officer ranks (regular soldiers) has not yet begun, with official updates to be communicated in due course.

Ghana Armed Forces Reinforces Warning

The Minister’s statement follows an earlier GAF press release exposing fraudulent activities by individuals posing as military officers.

According to the Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp, scammers have been exploiting unsuspecting applicants by promising enlistment slots for a fee. The GAF clarified that:

  • No ongoing recruitment exists for soldier ranks.

  • Officer cadet enlistment (begun last year) is in its final stages.

The military has urged victims to report such scams to the police and assured the public of ongoing collaboration with law enforcement to prosecute offenders.

In the Previous Recruitment these are the requirements

Entry Requirements General Eligibility Eligible applicants should: •    Be Ghanaian citizen by birth •    Be of good character •    Not to be married (Applicable to Regular Cadets Only) •    Not be bonded •    Not be less than18 years and not more than 26 years by 31 March 2025 (Applicable to Regular Cadets Only) •    Be medically fit by Ghana Armed Forces standards •    Must pass the Pre-Joining Fitness Test •    Be of minimum height of 1.68m (5’6) for males and 1.60m (5’2) for females. For Military Police only; the minimum height for male applicants should be 1.75m (5’9) and 1.70m (5’7) for females. The minimum education requirements for applicants are: 1.    BECE: Six (6) Credits at BECE including English, Mathematics and Science. 2.    WASSCE: Six (6) Credits (not less than C6) including Core English, Core Mathematics and Core Science. OR 3.    SSSCE: Six (6) Credits (not less than D) including Core English, Core Mathematics and Core Science. 4.    GCE ‘O’ & ‘A’ Levels: Five (5) Credits (not less than 6) including English Language and Mathematics at GCE ‘O’ Level and not less than D in three subjects and General Paper at GCE ‘A’ Level. 5.    Must have a minimum of First Degree not below Second Class Lower. (NB: Transcripts and Attestations will not be accepted)
