Budgetary Backing for Recruitment
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, June 25, the Minister confirmed that the move is supported by adequate budgetary allocation in the 2025 national budget. This initiative is part of broader efforts to improve teaching and learning outcomes nationwide.
*“Mr. Speaker, as I have assured this House, 50,000 teachers will be recruited, along with 10,000 non-teaching staff. Adequate provision was made for this in the 2025 budget,”* he stated.
Response to Minority Leader’s Concerns
The announcement followed concerns raised by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who called for investigations into alleged manhandling of teachers during a protest at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters.
However, Minister Iddrisu dismissed the claims, emphasizing that the government is actively resolving outstanding posting issues.
Updates on Teacher Postings
The Minister cited ongoing discussions with Bafour Eric, one of the affected teachers, who confirmed that financial clearance had been issued in May. Teachers were initially expected to start work in August, but postings were rescheduled for September.
“Naturally, by December 31, the clearance issued by the Finance Ministry had expired, and they can only proceed with a renewed clearance, which is what I am currently awaiting,” he explained.
Call for Patience
Minister Iddrisu urged affected teachers to remain patient, assuring them that the Ministry is committed to ensuring timely postings and effective deployment across schools nationwide.
