Applicants must elect Elective Mathematics and any two (2) of the following elective subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Business Management, Principles of Costing and Accounting. Actuarial Science is the discipline concerned with the study and application of mathematical, statistical, probabilistic, and financial theories to solve real-life and business problems. The traditional areas in which actuaries operate are: life and general insurance, pensions, and investment. Actuaries are also increasingly moving into other fields like health insurance, solvency measurements and asset-liability management, financial risk management, mortality and morbidity investigation and so on, where their analytical skills can be employed. Actuarial science involves the study of a number of interrelating courses and disciplines, including probability, mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, financial economics, and computer programming to define, analyse and solve the financial implications of uncertain future events.

Mode of course delivery
The programme is offered through distance education, a learning oriented system allowing greater flexibility in learning while students continue with their regular professional work. The programme is offered in a mixed-mode format. The approach uses print and electronic media in order to be responsive to the needs of the learner and also maximise the use of technology in course delivery. At the heart of the programme are excellent online learning materials developed by capable and competent resource persons from KNUST and other recognised institutions.Academic Support Systems/Services
Limited face-to-face facilitated sessions are provided at all the Learning Centres. These sessions are supported by print and electronic materials, and local learning facilitators who also support and direct students as they work through the resources provided. The Centres provide learning support to students living in different parts of the country, thus reducing travel expenses. Admission Requirements for BSc. A. WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS Entry Requirement Core Subjects: Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science. Elective Subjects: Credit passes in Mathematics and any TWO (2) Elective Subjects.
B. ‘A’ LEVEL AND EQUIVALENT Entry Requirements • ‘O’ Level or equivalent: Credit passes in FIVE (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, and Additional/Elective Mathematics, and • ‘A’ Level or equivalent: Credit passes in THREE (3) subjects including Mathematics. C. MATURE APPLICANTS Entry Requirements • Applicants should be at least 25 years old at the time of the application. • Applicants must satisfy the general requirements for the programme (i.e WASSCE/SSSCE, or ‘A’ Level, or HND/Diploma) • Short-listed applicants may take an Entrance Examination and pass an interview. D.
