Entry Requirements

For SSSCE Holders:

  • Six passes (A–C) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics

  • At least three (3) passes relevant to the area of specialization

For WASSCE Holders:

  • Six passes (A1–C6) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics

  • A minimum of C6 in any three (3) relevant subjects

For Mature Applicants:

  • Must be at least 25 years old by 31st December of the application year

  • Birth certificate (issued at least 5 years prior to application) required

  • Must have one of the following:

    • Senior High School Certificate

    • Teacher’s Cert ‘A’

    • Note: Applicants without credit passes in English and Mathematics will be required to sit and pass special exams in those subjects.

 Programme Description

The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in Early Childhood Care and Education provides quality teacher education for students from Senior High Schools and Colleges of Education.

The programme is designed to:

  • Train and upgrade students’ skills in best pedagogical practices.

  • Expose students to current trends in Early Childhood Education.

  • Produce professional teachers who can meet Ghana’s growing demand for quality Early Childhood Education.

This four-year programme is part of Ghana’s education reform agenda, focusing on equipping educators with the right skills to ensure effective teaching and learning in preschools and early grade levels.

 Programme Objectives

Upon completion, graduates of this programme will:

  •  Promote classroom-based research and instructional development training.

  •  Acquire theoretical and practical knowledge for teaching and managing preschools.

  •  Gain modern methodologies for effective teaching delivery.

  •  Address teaching and managerial challenges in Early Childhood Care and Development Centres.

  • Enhance the professional identity, prestige, and respect of early childhood educators.

  •  Demonstrate the ability to motivate and support preschoolers in building solid foundations for growth in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains.


Entry Requirements

Applicants must have at least:

  • A minimum of C6 in three (3) core subjects (including English Language and Mathematics).

  • Credits in relevant elective subjects related to Early Childhood Education.

Description

This programme is targeted at Pre-School Educators, SHS Certificate Holders, Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ holders, Social Workers, and all those who desire to be trained in the education of children at the pre-school level.

Entry Requirement

For Direct Entry, Applicants must possess any ONE of the following: A. WASSCE • Credit passes in Six (6) subjects, including (3) core subjects (A1- D7), plus • Credit passes (A1 – C6) in their (3) electives. B. SSSCE • Credit passes (A – D) in Six (6) subjects comprising three (3) Core Subjects including English Language and Mathematics, plus • Credit passes in three (3) elective subjects. C. GCE ‘O’ Level • Credit passes (Grade 6) in five (5) subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and a Science subject. D. Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ • Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ from a recognized College of Education or Institution. E. Certificate in Pre-School Education from the University of Education, Winneba. F. Mature applicants • The applicant should have obtained at least 25 years by September 1, in the academic year in which one wants to apply (See definition under Entry Modes on page 2 of this brochure)
