  Pharmacy Programme Admission Details 

University of Cape Coast (UCC)

Admission Streams: The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SoPPS) admits students into the PharmD programme through two streams:
  1. Regular Applicants – Those with WASSCE/SSSCE results or HND/first-degree certificates.
  2. Awaiting Results Applicants – Those expecting WASSCE results.
  • HND/Degree holders must apply under the Regular stream.
  • Interviews:
    • Regular Applicants: July/October
    • Awaiting Results: November (or after WASSCE results are released)

Undergraduate International students applying for Pharmacy

REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS APPLYING FOR PHARMACY
The minimum admission requirement for WASSCE applicants into the University of Cape Coast is an aggregate of 36.
  1. Candidates must have credit passes in six (6) subjects with an overall aggregate of 36/24 at the WASSCE/SSSCE, respectively. Three of the six subjects must be core subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, or Social Studies, and three must be in relevant electives. For purposes of admission, a credit pass in: WASSCE means A1 – C6, SSSCE means A – D
  2. Holders of the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level (obtained not more than three years ago) must, in addition to credit passes in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects (including English and Mathematics), have at least two (2) passes in the relevant subjects.
  3. Applicants with the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) results should have credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
  4. Holders of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)/ International Baccalaureate (IB) must possess at least Grades A*/A-C in English, Mathematics and Biology at the Standard (SL)/’O’ Level, in addition to three Higher Level (HL – A to C)/’A’ Level (A to D)/IB 2 (A to C) grades in the relevant subjects.
BEFORE YOU APPLY Before you start the application, kindly ensure you have the following documents and information available:

  2. A scanned copy of the passport biodata page
  3. Results from a Senior High School equivalent.
  4. Applicants with W.A.S.S.C.E results have to add the result checker information.
  5. Results in a language other than is not English will have to be translated and certified to be accepted. All International applicants’ qualifications would be referred to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to the programme.

FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS

REQUIRMENTS Candidates seeking admission to an MA/MEd/MSc/MBA degree programme must:
  1. Have obtained a good first degree (at least a second class) in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university/analogous institution.
Candidates seeking admission to MPhil/MCom/MN degree programmes must:
  1. Have obtained a good first degree (at least a second class) in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university/analogous institution.
Candidates seeking admission to PhD programmes must:
  1. Have an MPhil or research MA/MEd/MSc/MBA degree in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university. OR
  2. Have an MA/Med/MSc/MBA degree in an appropriate field, with a CGPA of 3.5 or better, with not least than grade C+. Also, have scored a B+ or better in the Research Methods course

  7. Applicants for Masters must submit two reference reports, one of which must be from a former lecturer. PhD applicants have to submit three reference reports.
  8. MPhil applicants must submit a 2-3 page proposal on intended area of study including references. PhD applicants must submit a 3-5 page proposal on intended area of study including a working bibliography.
  9. Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the College/Faculty/School/ Department.

How to Apply
  1. Application Period: Opens in February every year.

NATURE OF PROGRAMME AND DURATION: The PharmD Programme is a 6 six-year pharmacy programme leading to the award of Doctor of Pharmacy, UG. It is based upon many curricular endpoints and consists of:
  • Two years of pre-professional study (natural and social sciences) and
  • Four years of professional studies (three years theory and one-year advanced practice). Students will be admitted in August 2018 and are expected to graduate in 2024.
WHO CAN APPLY: This Programme is especially targeted at:
  • Ghanaian candidates who qualify for admission locally in Ghana.
  • Foreign candidates in the sub-region and globally who want to study Pharmacy and graduate with a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree.

Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Entry Requirements
  1. SSCE APPLICANTS
Passes in THREE (3) Core subjects (English, Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus passes in THREE (3) Elective subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics. ii. A -A-Level Applicants Candidates must have the General Certificate of Education at Ordinary Level in five (5) subjects, including English and Mathematics, in addition to: Chemistry, Physics and Biology; or General Science, Additional General Science and any other subjects plus the General Certificate of Education at Advanced Level or its equivalent in the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics/ Mathematics. iii. MATURE APPLICANTS Applicants must have obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Dispensing Technology from a recognised institution with at least two years of working experience. OR Applicants must have attained the age of 25 years at the time of submitting the application forms AND must have EITHER Five (5) credits at O – O-Level, including English Language and Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. OR Passes in SSSCE Core Subjects (English, Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus passes in THREE (3) Elective subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.
