The Ghana Scholarships Secretariat has officially launched the 2025 Local Tertiary Scholarships Programme, with 5,000 Ghanaian students expected to benefit in the 2025/2026 academic year. The initiative, a key part of President John Dramani Mahama’s vision, aims to democratize access to higher education and empower the nation’s future leaders.
Scholarship Allocation & Eligibility
Out of the 5,000 scholarships available:
- 2,000 awards for brilliant but needy students in public tertiary institutions (coordinated at the faculty level).
- 3,000 awards are open to qualified applicants through a competitive selection process.
Key Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a Ghanaian citizen residing in Ghana.
- Must have secured admission into a recognized tertiary institution.
Institution-Specific Conditions
Public Tertiary Institutions:
- Only Level 200 and above students are eligible (due to the “No Fee Stress Refund” policy for Level 100 students).
Private Universities & Accredited Colleges:
- Level 100 students can apply (as they are not covered under the “No Fee Stress” initiative).
